Hysterectomy for Heavy Periods

This Fertility & Pregnancy Institute library entry is in response to a question on if you have no choice but to get a hysterectomy if you have heavy periods?

I will just say I’m in no way a hysterectomy expert and I always want to see hysterectomies used as a last resort because it forces the body into a lot of abrupt difficult changes. I just don’t want it for you if at all avoidable. I would hypothesize that there’s an incredible overuse of hysterectomy and that a large percentage are not necessary if we’re willing to do the detective work and address the underlying causes.

I want you to not have to have a hysterectomy and I also want you to have your super baby. I want you to think about what could be the underlying causes for your heavy periods. Is it estrogen dominance? It may be that you need some progesterone supplementation.

Maybe you need supplements that reduce estrogen levels, support estrogen detoxification, and other supplements that boost progesterone. A lot of estrogen dominance isn’t just about the absolute value of estrogen, but it’s about not enough progesterone to counteract it. Due to our stress response and the chronic stress that we all live under in this modern world, whether it’s from light, deadlines, traffic, finances, or fertility challenges.

Many people by the time they’re in their 30s are seeing impacts on their progesterone. I want you to pay attention to this and maybe you need some dynamic labs especially the cycle mapping. You might even need some static labs, but I also want you to pay attention to your blood sugar regulation. I want you to pay attention to your toxic exposure. So if you are exposed to xenoestrogens, one of the places that they are hiding is in grains and grains are in everything.

My kids don’t eat very many grains at all, but they like to have gluten-free spaghetti sometimes. We found some grain-free spaghetti that’s made out of cassava. Cassava is high in carbohydrates but it’s a great alternative. I just want to point out that you could be exposed to things that are artificially making your body think that estrogens are even higher, creating more estrogen dominance.

I want you to pay attention to those things before you seriously consider having a hysterectomy. I know painful heavy periods are really difficult and I don’t want to minimize that in any way. I also want you to save your uterus if you possibly can. Okay, so the other thing is, I want you to make sure you’re monitoring your iron levels and checking for anemia regularly. This has to be done at least once every three months if not more frequently.

Also, I want to know if you’ve done your epiprime, your epigenetics. If you haven’t done that already, this would be something really valuable to do. This way you can try to understand the root cause and how to reverse what’s happening, or reduce the heaviness of the bleeds. I just want you to remember that having a hysterectomy is not just like removing something. It affects the whole system because it affects hormone balance and so many other things that I would hope don’t have to happen. It’s okay and you’ll make the best out of it.

You’ll use the primemester to help you cope with the changes that will be coming up and when you make the crossover into menopause.
